- Single Time Step
- Multiple Time Step
Excel is a common file type to save data files in. However, Excel files can be strucutred in a number of ways which make general Excel files hard to read automatically for any data reader. DW tryes to solve this problem by letting the user choose among six preloaded default templates and try to match any of these to how your data is structures. The DW Default Templates are preloaded XML files that contains information of how an excel data file is structured. An example of what information the templates contain is what cell the first Indicator name is placed and in what direction (rows or columns) the next Indicators lie. Match a template with an appropriate Excel file and you will instantly get a data set ready for editing and exporting. Click the images above to get a closer look at the default templates.
Data that does not contain any time step information can be loaded through the first default template, the user will then be asked from DW if the data is from a specific time step or if the data simply simply is not affiliated with a single time step. Data that is affiliated with a time step can be merged with other time dependent data.
On Same Sheet
Time dependent data is often structured with all data on the same sheet, this is why most of DW:s default templates are structured this way, template 2-5 shows different data structures of time dependent data.
On Different Sheets
A structure that gives a better overview of the data is having each time step in new sheets. The 6th template fits data structured this way.
